A question was asked at the candidate’s forum if I supported a community greenhouse. In my head, I quickly formulated an image of a large paned glass A-framed building with lush green ivy creeping up the corner posts. How cool would that be to have in Unalaska! That of course is my personal opinion. When I don the council hat, a fact filter is applied in which many aspects of realism are examined and a greenhouse may never come to be.
Clearly different issues are important to different community members, but my responsibility is to the community as a whole. In order to make good, informed decisions, it’s important to hear and consider every viewpoint so that I fully understand these issues. My realism incorporates things like the cost to build and maintain, value to the municipality, who will benefit most, and how will it improve the quality of life for people who live, work and visit Unalaska.
But through it all, let me make one thing perfectly clear: I ultimately work for you, whether you voted for me or not, and I aim to make decisions for the greater good of the community.
Keep dreaming Unalaska! It is our community to make of it what we want.
